SGGG is a garnet-structure single crystal derived from gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG), with select ions substituted to fine-tune its lattice parameters. It is most commonly used as a substrate for the epitaxial growth of magnetic garnet films.

SGGG crystals are widely used in magneto-optical applications, including as substrates for bismuth-substituted iron garnet (BIG) films used in optical isolators and Faraday rotators.
