Barium fluoride (BaF2) is a fluoride-based single crystal substrate valued for its wide optical transparency, spanning from the deep ultraviolet through the infrared. Its broad transmission range and low refractive index make it a preferred material for optical windows and lenses used across a wide spectral range.

BaF2 substrates are also notable for their fast scintillation response, making them suitable for radiation detection applications in addition to optical uses.
