
Copper-Beryllium Sputtering Target
Copper-beryllium (CuBe) is a copper alloy that, when its surface is oxidized, forms a thin beryllium oxide (BeO) layer with a high secondary electron emission (SEE) yield. This surface behavior is well established in vacuum electronics research and has been studied since the mid-twentieth century as a means of amplifying weak electron signals.
Sputtered CuBe thin films are used to coat dynode electrodes in electron multipliers and photomultiplier tubes, where surface activation forms the thin BeO layer responsible for the high, stable secondary electron emission that amplifies incoming electron or ion signals.
