Titanium Carbide Sputtering Target

Titanium carbide (TiC) combines superior surface hardness (up to around 30 GPa) with good corrosion resistance, a low coefficient of friction, and high electrical conductivity. Sputtered TiC thin films retain these tribo-mechanical properties as protective coatings.

Sputtered TiC thin films are used as wear- and corrosion-resistant coatings for cutting tools, tribological components, and electrical contacts, as well as thermal and diffusion barrier layers. TiC coatings deposited by magnetron sputtering, either from a TiC target or reactively from a titanium target in a carbon-containing atmosphere, are widely studied for improving the hardness and wear performance of surfaces in demanding industrial applications.
