Vanadium Nitride Sputtering Target

Vanadium nitride (VN) combines high density, high melting point, superior hardness, and excellent electronic conductivity. Sputtered VN thin films also exhibit high specific capacitance from fast, reversible surface redox reactions, an unusual combination of hardness and electrochemical activity.

Sputtered VN thin films, deposited by reactive DC magnetron sputtering, are widely studied as binder-free negative electrode materials for pseudocapacitive electrochemical supercapacitors, offering a wide negative potential window and high specific capacitance in alkaline electrolytes. VN thin films are also studied as hard, wear-resistant coatings and, in combination with other transition metal nitrides such as TiN or Mo2N, as electrodes for asymmetric supercapacitors.
