
Vanadium Sesquioxide Sputtering Target
Vanadium sesquioxide (V2O3) is an archetypal Mott insulator that undergoes an abrupt metal-insulator transition near 150 K, accompanied by a large change in electrical conductivity and a shift in optical properties. Sputtered V2O3 thin films avoid the cracking that affects bulk crystals during this transition, making them well suited to device applications.
Sputtered V2O3 thin films, typically deposited by reactive DC magnetron sputtering, are studied for novel electronic and memory device applications that exploit the Mott metal-insulator transition, as well as for thermochromic smart-window coatings that modulate infrared transmission with temperature. V2O3 films are also investigated for tip-induced and strain-engineered switching devices in condensed matter physics research.
