Vanadium Dioxide Sputtering Target

Vanadium dioxide (VO2) undergoes a fully reversible metal-insulator phase transition near 68°C, switching between a monoclinic, infrared-transparent semiconducting state and a metallic, infrared-reflecting rutile state. Sputtered VO2 thin films exploit this abrupt, repeatable switching behaviour.

Sputtered VO2 thin films, typically deposited by reactive DC magnetron sputtering, are widely studied for thermochromic smart-window coatings that automatically modulate near-infrared solar transmission with temperature to reduce building heating and cooling loads. VO2 films are also used in tunable metamaterials, uncooled infrared bolometers, and optical or electronic switching devices that exploit the sharp metal-insulator transition.
